Thank you for your question! All ACUVUE® Brand lenses are soft contact lenses. A soft contact lens is a medical device made from either one of two families of plastics: hydrogels or silicone hydrogels. With both materials, the lens floats on the tear film on the front of your eye, working much like an eye glass lens to bend light and redirect it towards the back of your eye.

There are several differences between these lenses. ACUVUE® OASYS™ Brand Contact Lenses features HYDRACLEAR® Plus technology while ACUVUE® ADVANCE® Brand features HYDRACLEAR® technology. HYDRACLEAR® Plus is the next generation of HYDRACLEAR® with a higher volume of moisture-rich wetting agent incorporated into a state-of-the-art formulation. ACUVUE® OASYS™ Brand also allows for greater wettability, smoothness, and UV blocking than the ACUVUE® ADVANCE® Brand.

Question

How often do I change my Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear contacts?

I am a first time contact user and was told to take my contacts out every night, clean them, and soak overnight in solution. I would then reinsert them in the morning. My problem is I was told each lens would last one month this way and on the website it says to replace them every two weeks. Is that only if you do not take them out at night?

Thank you for your question. However, Ask ACUVUE® is not the proper forum to solicit personal medical advice. Please ask your eye doctor, who will be in the best position to provide an answer to your question.

Question

Can i use Thera Tears Lubricant eye drops with my contacts in?

I have chronic dry eyes and allergies. My old eye doc suggested i try using Thera Tears lubricant (day) and gel (night, before bed). My new eye doc told me to see if i can use this brand of drops before i start using it with contacts in. He said it may mess up the hydroclear stuff on the contacts, Is that true?

Thank you for your question. It’s important to note that not all eye drops are indicated for use with contact lenses. Before starting to use any eye drop, make sure you consult your eye doctor who will be able to give you guidance as to appropriate use.

In regard to your recent inquiry, your eye doctor will tell you how long you should wear your lenses each day before taking them out for cleaning and how often you should replace them. By following these directions, you will benefit from the advantages of frequent replacement contact lens wear.

Thank you for contacting us about our product line. While we are always expanding the range of sizes and configurations available, I’m sorry to say we currently do not make lenses that meet your needs or have a timetable when they may be available. Your comments help us assess and meet consumer requirements, and I have passed your request along to the appropriate people here at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. As technology advances, perhaps we will be able to serve your specific needs in the future.
